Hi, I'm Laura
a German-Spanish animator and filmmaker. After finishing my studies in Animation at the Film University Babelsberg in Potsdam, I moved back to my hometown Cologne, Germany.
I like to work with different analogue media to realise music videos and short films, any technique from oil-on-glass animation to drawn with charcoal - but above all hand-made quality animation. The imperfections and random artifacts in analogue animations are an essential part of my work and create a new uniqueness in the age of A.I.

Hooked On Illusions
Hooked On Illusions is my Bachelor film [2023, DE, Animation, 4']
In this hand-painted and drawn animation, a lonely old man fishes his dreams from the moon's reflection. Looking inside them, he faces surreal and devastating nightmares until a spiritual discovery frees him from all illusions.
The film "Hooked on Illusions" deals with human suffering and the identification with one's own pain. In this film, I process the grief over the death of my father and the feelings about human nothingness. The fisherman is able to transform his situation by changing his own perspective and thus finding peace.

I Just Call It Love
Stop-Motion Project on Painted Clay Plates

During a three-week collaboration project with the Tehran University of Art, I got to create an animated documentary about a person I met in Teheran. A young woman told me she was struggling to be accepted and accept her sexuality in her strict society.
I tried to capture the essence of that interview and experimented a lot to find appropriate symbolism and tell the story in an abstract way. The end result is a film with fragmented storytelling that depicts the emotional side of her story.
The Film was screened in festivals around the world, amongst others at the FAB Berlin & Exground Filmfest Wiesbaden (DE), Athens Digital Arts Festival (GR), Anibar Festival in Peja (XK), Canlandiranlar Istanbul (TR), Women’s Festival Lublin (PL), Cinetoro (AR).

Liminal Space: Dive Within

The short film "Liminal Space: Diving within" is an experimental short film that deals with the director's loss of her beloved father and her deep grief.
My contribution is a 1-min. oil-on-glass abstract animation sequence, in which the protagonist reconnects with her inner self and finds peace.

Naturall:i is an experiment that I made during an artistic stay in the Swiss alps, reflecting on my surroundings and my connection to nature.
The short film and the cyanotypes won at the 2023 Museum Fluxus+ art competition in Potsdam, DE.
